Erasure Art: Domestic Experiences (poem)

Erasure art is where you find an old page from a book, and you cross out words selectively, until you are (hopefully) left with a poem.

Here’s one I attempted this evening. The chapter title of the page that it was from actually seemed like the best title for the poem:

DOMESTIC EXPERIENCES

scalded
tenderly,
despairingly,

he never
dared to laugh
afterward;

the finishing stroke
of her hands
confounded
an anxious eye

and
after a long day’s work,
a chaotic house,
an empty table,

and a cross

for one unlucky word.
